TOL

Today, the last business day before my 31st birthday, I received a tentative offer letter (TOL) from the FAA. This means I am in the door. It could not have come any further down to the wire than this. I had pretty much given up hope about a month ago and I can't believe that it's all coming back together!

congrats man, that's what it's all about. I wrote on a post of yours a little over a year ago when I was about to go in. I'm now a pink card carrying Navy AC in kingsville, Tx. It's pretty boring here but the traffic is good because of all the trainers.
I already knew I wanted this before I found your site but it was definatly a good read in the 9 months I was in DEP. Good Luck with the FFA.

Colin,
Inquiring minds want to know where you got picked up and how is the training going? How was the school in OKC? did you stay at Kims Place? Also, how is the pay in comparison to your e-5 pay starting out? Also, how frequent are the raises and are they substantial raises? Thanks buddy

I apologize for the lack of updates recently. I'll post about the hiring process soon. Just to let you know where things stand right now...

I've completed all of my in-processing (background check, physical, drug screening, psychological screening, etc.). The results from my physical are still processing, so I haven't started any training and I haven't received any pay yet. The pay in OKC is dependant on a few things and varies from person to person. From what I understand, it is based on the level of your future facility. I've also heard that prior military controllers receive slightly higher starting pay. Prior DoD controllers get even more (some calculation based on their previous GS level). This is all here-say I picked up from StuckMic.com. It sounds like I will be able to bank a lot of per diem pay if I plan correctly for OKC. Kim's Place is supposed to be great, but not cheap. I haven't decided where I'll stay, but I'm thinking about trying to find some roommates in order to save money.

Raises will start once I start training at my facility in Binghamton, NY. Once you hit certain checkpoints in your training, your pay advances to the next "step." There are only a couple of steps at Binghamton since it is a small facility. Once fully qualified, I imagine the pay will be only slightly higher than my E5 pay because I will have to pay for insurance and I also lose the housing and food allowances the Navy provided.

Look for updates soon, and thanks for reading.

Colin
